portslie Check types
Check types
Every check asks the service the way browsers or game clients do before they show anything. Nine types are built, all in every plan.
The nine check types
Minecraft Java Edition
portslie sends the Server List Ping query the launcher also sends before it shows the server in the list. It returns version, slots, player count and MOTD.
Monitor Minecraft servers: everything on Java and Bedrock
- Default port
- 25565
- Transport
- TCP
- Level 1 The port accepts the connection.
- Level 2 A valid Server List Ping answer comes back.
- Level 3 Slots greater than 0 and a version are set.
Messages word for word
Level 1Port open, but no valid Server List Ping: …
Level 2An answer came, but Slots=0 Version='' — the server is still starting or returns a placeholder answer.
Level 314/100 players, 1.21.1
Minecraft Bedrock Edition
portslie sends the RakNet ping the Bedrock app also uses to list servers. The answer contains version, player count and slots. Also works for Java servers with Geyser that let Bedrock players in.
Monitor Minecraft servers: everything on Java and Bedrock
- Default port
- 19132
- Transport
- UDP
- Level 1 The ping gets an answer.
- Level 2 The answer is a valid RakNet pong.
- Level 3 Slots greater than 0 and a version are set.
Messages word for word
Level 1The answer is not a RakNet pong.
Level 2Responds, but Slots=0 Version='' — the server is still starting.
Level 37/40 players, 1.21.50
FiveM and RedM
portslie reads /info.json and /players.json of the server. From them come slots, player list and the number of loaded resources. A server that stands there with four resources is still starting up.

- Default port
- 30120
- Transport
- HTTP
- Level 1 The port accepts the connection.
- Level 2 /info.json answers in the expected form.
- Level 3 Slots set and at least 5 resources loaded.
Messages word for word
Level 1Port open, but /info.json does not answer: TimeoutError: timed out
Level 2Responds, but sv_maxClients=0 and only 3 resources …
Level 341/64 players, 212 resources
Games with Steam query (A2S)
CS2, Rust, Garry's Mod, Enshrouded and many other Steam games answer A2S_INFO over UDP. portslie answers the challenge servers require today and reads map, slots, players and bots. What matters is the query port: for Enshrouded about 15637, not the game port.
- Default port
- 27015
- Transport
- UDP
- Level 1 The query gets any answer at all.
- Level 2 The answer is a readable A2S_INFO.
- Level 3 The server reports more than 0 slots.
Messages word for word
Level 1The answer is not an A2S_INFO.
Level 2Responds, but reports 0 slots.
Level 318/20 players (2 bots), map de_mirage
TeamSpeak 3 and TeamSpeak 6
portslie sends the first packet of the connection handshake to the voice port. A running virtual server answers it without anyone signing in. In addition, the ServerQuery port is queried: if only it answers, the instance is running but the virtual server is not.
- Voice port
- 9987
- ServerQuery
- 10011
- Level 1 ServerQuery answers, the voice port does not.
- Level 3 The voice server answers the connection handshake.
- Limit ServerQuery only returns the player count with a login. Without one, portslie does not show it.
Messages word for word
Level 1ServerQuery answers, but the voice port does not — the instance is running, the virtual server is not.
Level 3Voice server accepts connections
Satisfactory
Since version 1.0 the dedicated server has its own query over UDP, the “Lightweight Query API”. It reports whether the server is waiting, loading or running, and its name. portslie speaks it directly.
- Default port
- 7777
- Transport
- UDP
- Level 1 The query gets an answer.
- Level 2 The answer is valid, the server reports “offline” or “loading”.
- Level 3 The server is waiting for players or running.
Measured against a real dedicated server. While the map loads, the server briefly does not answer at all. Because an incident needs two bad checks in a row, that does not trigger an alert.
Messages word for word
Level 1The answer is not a Satisfactory query answer.
Level 2Responds, but reports: loading.
Level 3Server running, factory
Websites and panels
For your website, your shop or the panel: not just “200 OK”, but a text that must appear on the page, one that must not appear there — such as “Maintenance mode” or a database error served with HTTP 200 —, a response time limit and the certificate expiry date.
- Default port
- 443
- Transport
- HTTP, HTTPS
- Level 1 The server answers, even with an error code.
- Level 2 The answer comes without an error code, but something is wrong.
- Level 3 Expected text present, forbidden text absent, response time within limits, certificate valid for at least 14 more days.
Messages word for word
Level 1HTTP 502 — reachable, but returns an error.
Level 2HTTP 200, but “Maintenance mode” appears in the answer.
Level 2HTTP 200, but the certificate expires in 9 days.
Level 3HTTP 200, content checked.
DNS records
Does the name resolve, and does it point where it should? Catches expired domains, wrongly changed records and a provider switch where the A record was forgotten. You specify the expected addresses, or you leave the field empty.
- Entries
- A, AAAA
- Resolved
- at the probe location
- Level 2 The name resolves, but not to the expected addresses.
- Level 3 All expected addresses are present.
If a name points into a private network, portslie does not name the address.
Messages word for word
Level 0Name does not resolve: no A or AAAA record, or the domain does not exist.
Level 2Resolves to 198.51.100.7, expected was 203.0.113.10.
Level 3Resolves to 203.0.113.10.
Ping
Does the machine answer at all? For routers, firewalls and machines without an open service. A ping says nothing about whether a website or a game runs on it — which is exactly why the other types exist.
- Protocol
- ICMP echo, IPv4
- Attempts
- up to 3 per check
- Level 2 An answer comes, but above the response time limit.
- Level 3 An answer comes.
Some servers and firewalls never answer ping. Then ping is the wrong check type.
Messages word for word
Level 0No answer to 3 pings to 203.0.113.24.
Level 3Answers ping (203.0.113.24, attempt 1 of 3).
Everything at a glance
If you run several services, create one target per service. The check is the same in every plan; only the number and interval differ.
| Service | Query | Level 3 means |
|---|---|---|
| Website, Panel | HTTP and HTTPS | Expected text present, forbidden text absent, response time within limits, certificate valid for at least 14 more days |
| DNS | A and AAAA via the resolver of the probe location | Name resolves, all expected addresses present |
| Ping | ICMP echo, IPv4 | An answer comes, within the limit |
| Minecraft Java | Server List Ping over TCP | Version set, slots greater than 0 |
| Minecraft Bedrock | RakNet ping over UDP | Version set, slots greater than 0 |
| FiveM, RedM | /info.json and /players.json | Slots set, at least 5 resources loaded |
| CS2, Rust, Garry's Mod, Enshrouded | A2S_INFO over UDP, with challenge | Server reports more than 0 slots |
| TeamSpeak 3, 6 | Connection handshake on the voice port, plus ServerQuery | Voice server answers the connection handshake |
| Satisfactory | Lightweight Query over UDP | Server is waiting for players or running |
Your game is missing?
Today these services can only be checked at level 1, i.e. only whether the port is open. Tell us which game you need. What is requested often and offers a query, we build first.
- Factoriohas no open query; would only work via RCON with your password
- ARK: Survival Ascendedqueries via Epic Online Services instead of Steam
- Player count for TeamSpeakneeds a ServerQuery login that portslie cannot store yet
